Fingers Crossed! broody BR!

Yep, she's "weaning" them, so to speak. Teaching them to be more independent. I have a broody with chicks about the same age and they're on their own more and more, too.

Thank you bobbi-j. It was funny that the day after you messaged back, she laid an egg! No wonder she has been acting odd. She has laid an egg almost everyday since, and is still being a good mommy

I'm losing hope

there has been a faint smell the last couple of days i chalked it up to be the coop needs cleaning since i haven't let the coop go this long with out cleaning it before. well when i went to change the food and water out this morning for the broody she was off her nest and the smell coming from it was horrendous. it was also dark so i couldn't really see that good into the nest but it looked like there was fewer eggs then before

Hang in there. Hope it's nothing too bad. This year is the 1st time we have had a successful brooder. We had one last year that was determined, but an egg busted under her and I think it contaminated the others. Don't give up yet. Candle the eggs if you can. Get a small flashlight with a high # of lumens. I have heard that sometimes a hen will kick out or eat a bad egg.

I don't know exactly what day we are on, but we have a broody on 2 eggs due some time between tonight and Sunday. Keep me posted on yours! This is my first time too so I would love to hear how it goes :) Hoping that the smell doesn't mean anything bad!

Keep us posted. I wouldn't toss the eggs until you candle them. I set 6 eggs under my brooder and candled them a few times during the process. I was so afraid one would bust like last year. We threw out one egg that was not fertilized. 2 chicks hatched on day 20. I thought that was going to be it, but on day 22 another one hatched. I really hope yours hatch!!

I was in the coop when she decided to get up and get some water so I rushed over to the cage she was in. To view the progress. .. Only one egg remains no sign of any of the others :( one of these times I will have a successful broody that will hatch chicks
