I was thinking the same i hope it doesnt harm them becouse i realy want to see on day 7 what has begun if anything

The more you touch the egg the more chance you have of contaminating the egg and causing a blood ring etc... Also be careful if you have any wire cuts on your fingers. I was working on my run awhile back and even though I thoroughly washed my hands before touching the eggs I had some nasty infected cuts on my finger tips. I lost about half of the eggs

Oh, interesting... I did get a couple of blood rings, which I thought was due to shipping.

I usually do not candle my eggs; however, I had an over-full incubator last hatch so I needed to candle to get rid of the duds.

I keep a box of disposable gloves next to the incubator and wear them whenever I have to touch the eggs or newborn chicks.

the candler perimeter is cleansed, the pen i use to record the data is cleansed, the outside of the bator and bator cover which i touch with my rubber gloved hands is also cleansed just beforehand.

i also wash my hands even before i put on the rubber gloves, then i wash my finger tips with the gloves on and pat dry.

i also cleanse the cake drying rack I place the egg rack on when i candle.

the gloves are stored in a ziplock plastic bag..............

ETA: Oh yes, the digital scale surface and buttons, as well as the little cup i put the eggs in for humidity weighing also get cleansed before any candling weighing procedure.

All the above takes about 7 min. before the candling weighing actually begins...........
