Oh cool! Thanks! I am going to put a light on them tomorrow. They have a red light and the garage light but they are in a commercial style brooder until spring and I don't think they get enough light in there to lay. I need to mount a light on the side of the brooder to light it up for them.
Don't bother to process until they are at least 10 weeks old. I did that a couple weeks ago and although they were yummy, there wasn't enough on them to really make it worthwhile. I did the scalped roos. Over 10 weeks, there's a definite difference.
And Buster, the lights definitely make a difference. I turn the lights on around 7 and off...um now...when I go to bed. HUGE difference in how many eggs I get.
Okay I have a hen named Big Bertha, she layed the egg I hatched over 7-8 weeks ago named Henny Penny.
*still following me?* ha ha! That is Henny Pennys egg in the picture. So this would be my great grand quail. Since I say I'm the mama of Big Bertha, and the grandma of Henny Penny (ha ha), so this egg will be my great grand baby....hopefully one of them is a big pretty hen so it can keep the pedigree line going.
I also said Ike was the sire, which probably sounded like Ike (the tuxedo male) was Henny Pennys dad. Nope Ike is the father of the egg.
ha ha
OH and yes Cindy, she'll be laying her 4th egg today! her second one was pure white!
Her third one is bigger and has rough bumps on it im sure that one hurt coming out! LOL!
Big Bertha (A&M mama of Henny Penny she's the LARGEST quail I've ever seen/own):
Henny Penny (brown, not sure if she's a jumbo or not yet she's still pretty young like Cindy mentions about waiting until 10 weeks I completley agree with this NOW because it's amazing how much my quail from Ocotbers hatching have grown they are meaty meaty!!!):
And heres Ike, best "picture" i have of him is him crowing on vid lol- he's a tuxedo, and daddy of said eggs haha:
