Another newbie question. Is it ok to put some big fir branches in my run? I thought my chickens could hop up on them and pick for bugs. I di read in the BYC archives that some people thought that pine needles could cause bumblefoot. Any thoughts? Thanks!!

I think it would be fine, although your chickens may be afraid of them at first.

if the evergreen branches are sharp/prickly I wouldn't use them
pine needles/pine straw are okay
also fallen leaves are okay
I throw pine cones in there too

I LOVE your chicken habitat!

I have decided to break up the branches for the big limb and just toss 1 in at a time instead of the whole big branch.

Thanks!! I love this forum!!
