Okay, so I'm a newish mommy to a young goose, duck, and a bunch of 10 week old chicks.
My duck and goose are outside in my backyard but the chicks are still inside. Ugh.

I was wondering - should I bring my goose and duck in on Saturday so they don't get freaked out by the fireworks going off? I could stick them into a dog crate, but i know they wouldn't like it. Goose also wouldn't be able to stand up because of the long neck.

I also have some flight suits that should fit them, but since I've never trained them to get used to them I think they would spaz out. Plus diapering a P.O.ed goose sounds like a whole lot of not much fun.

Can anyone give me some insight and stories about how they have dealt with Independence Day celebrations???

Our chickens, dogs, horses, or anything pay no attention to fireworks....

Reminds me of my DHs dog he had when I first started seeing him. The dog LOVED firecrackers. You could throw a bottle rocket and he would run to catch it just so it would pop in his mouth. He loved it so much they had to tie him up when shooting firecrackers to keep him from soring up his mouth! It was wild to watch - the dog thoroughly LOVED it - beats anything LOL

My chickens last year went crazy. I live about 50yds from a park where they shoot off the fireworks. The other years had no problem with my chickens but last year these were younger ones so they were running around didn't know where to go. It was funny to watch them.

My chickens hate the lawn mower and tiller so I'm sure mine will freak out saturday, I'd watch them to see, or maybe shoot off a few cheap ones earlier that day to see what they do.

My were upset the first time it rained!!! I went outside and talked to them softly and it seemed to have a calming effect. Mine don't like the lawn mower either, so I'm sure fireworks are going to send them into panic mode.

Mine are not disturbed by much of anything. My hubby has literally shot feral cats stalking my birds just a few feet from them. They barely even glanced up to see what it was - totally ignored it. We have been shooting off crackers and bottle rockets here off and on for a week - they didn't care or even pause in their scratching, lol.

I don't try to shelter my animals from any noise and no noise seems to bother them. Some of my older chickens and my nanny goat have experienced 2 excavators digging a 27 foot deep trench in my yard less than 20 feet from the barn when the new sewage system was installed. I was cutting wood with my chainsaw within 10 feet of some 6 week old chicks today. I figure they have to get used to the world around them so why shelter them.

My 2 week old chicks that are in the house went into a frienzy the other night when we had a thunder storm. Because they are so young, I am keeping them sheltered from all of the big bad things and noises of the world outside. But in a few months when they do get to go outside, I want them to be adjusted so that that every day noises don't freak them them out. How does your goose and duck react to thunder? That may be a good indicator of how they will deal with fireworks. Last year, my older chickens didn't care at all about fireworks or thunder. They enjoy life outside in the coop, and all of the noise that goes with it.

Do they have a coop or some type of shelter? If so I'd just make sure they can get where they feel safest. They may hide out for the day and should be fine tomorrow. Keeping animals away from noise especially while young will only make them worse as they get older. It's better to expose them to a lot the younger they are so nothing is surprising. My horses generally run about the first year they hear fireworks but the older ones are used to it and don't react so the younger ones fail to react by the next year.

Our farm is only 1/2 mile from lake where our town has their local celebration. They put on a huge fireworks show and we can sit on the front lawn and watch it all. I was scared that our horses would go through the fence too or the birds freak out. This is the 7th year out at that place and haven't had a problem yet. They really could care less about the ruckus.
