Hi all, I got my first to eggs today and I was wondering if anyone had a way they could tell which hens are laying. I have 15 hens, 12 are brown egg layers and the two eggs were brown, but I am not sure which hens layed them. Any advise?

Thanks!

Congrats!

Look to the hens with the reddest combs/wattles. If you really have to know, you can feel their pelvic bones below their vent. A gap of 1 finger between them - not laying. The ones with 2-3 finger widths between them would be your layers.

Thanks for the tips! I went out this morning to observe and sure enough my red star jumped into the next box and layed an egg, so I am thinking she is the same one from yesterday because it was in the same box. The other one from yesterday was out in the run, not sure if it was hers too from the day before or anothers. I am hoping she decided the nest box was better and the rest will follow suit when it comes time.
