I just reintegrated this silkie hen after being sick for a short time. She has been back to normal for 2 days and back in the coop with everyone since this morning. This afternoon I went and checked on everyone and found her missing all the feathers on the top of her crest and a huge hole right at the base of her crest. She’s in pain and I’m not sure what I can give her or if she needs antibiotics she is inside now. Pics attached

When I reintegrate a hen after a long absence, I put them into an extra large covered wire dog crate in my covered run along with their own food and water so they can do look-no-touch with the other chickens for a few weeks or up to a month. Lots of fighting the cage, and then eventually they get used to each other. There will still be pecking order fights once they're really face to face, but it seems to take the edge off. Sorry you had a poor reintroduction. Sometimes it goes fine, and other times it doesn't. Depends on a lot of factors and the chickens involved.

Sorry they scalped your Silkie. Nuthatched is correct, she'll heal up in about a month and you'd never know she was injured. I'd do a longer look-no-touch period on your next reintroduction. For minor wounds, I use Blu-kote to turn them from red to purple/blue so the bird can stay with the flock whenever possible, in order to avoid reintroductions. However, sometimes removal and later reintroduction is the best choice.

Thank you guys for your advice. She isn’t really eating or drinking and is very puffed up(feathers fluffed). Any advice on what to give her? I’ve tried electrolytes and she won’t touch the water. Tried scrambled eggs and she won’t even eat that. Also tried a little raw yolk and she’s still refusing to eat.

She could be dealing with shock?

I'd try dribbling a bit of Nutridrench into the side of her beak. Just onto her tongue. If you can get her head sideways, dribble the Nutridrench onto the joint between her upper and lower beak, and it will dribble into her mouth. Sometimes that helps improve their appetite.

Otherwise, just keep her in a calm environment for a day or so and see if she improves.

If you have an updated picture from today, we can take a look and see how the wound is healing.

If she doesn't perk up in the next day, I'd consider systemic antibiotics.
