First aid kit to have on hand just in case. Anyone have one for sale?

Miss Lydia, I bought Nascent iodine (and magnesium oil) from this website. You might be interested in this e-book too. Sorry to go off topic a bit, but there are iodine receptors all over the body, even in the breasts, so ladies, you should read this book because iodine is important in breast health.

I have given Nascent to an old hen because she had a little discharge from her right eye (without any other symptoms)...put a drop on a piece of dry dog food and gave her several iodine-laced pieces per day for 3 days. She's doing just fine. If anybody reads this particular post without seeing my previous one, please remember you can't ingest Betadine or iodine tincture, but you can Nascent.

I didn't mean to hijack your thread Carolyn.

I have part of a bathroom cupboard devoted to critter stuff. There is a tube of eye ointment, bought for something at some point (this was a spare tube & hasn't been opened). I keep a big container of styptic (blood stop) powder, a spray bottle of iodine, a pump spray of Blu-Kote. I have packets of saline solution for humans for a neti pot & wouldn't hesitate to mix that up and use it on a critter, if needed. I am fresh out of electrolytes, and need to pick some up. I use the non-flavored Pedialyte for this. If needed, I can get it and be back in minutes, though, at least during the day/evening hours. I always have neosporin, peroxide, rubbing alcohol, gauze, etc. on hand for people (or dogs/cats) so have those handy, anyway. I don't have any antibiotics on hand, and need to add those to the stash eventually. I have several syringes tubes that can be used without needles to dose any creature we have.

Those are pretty much the basics here...

I tried to put a pharmacy together too and didn't get it together before the chicks. So I have gotten things as needed. We have needed, in no particular order and as I remember it iodine and big syringes to squirt it, blue kote, neosporin, vitamin b complex tablets, the homeopathic for mareks, a few presciptions, electrolyte mix, some other herbs etc, that didn't help anything so don't get them!, pinless peepers, hot pick, OH! of course polyvisol without iron.

Most of this stuff is resulting from a dog attack, and a hen that we didn't know what was wrong with so we got stuff for everything. we also have epson salts for accidentally ingested poisons. Hydrogen peroxide for severe injuries (first wash) Man, I have bought a lot of stuff for these birds. Our neighbor, whose dog it was that attacked our flock, laughed and said he coudn't afford any fifty dollar chickens. (that is how much we spent on meds etc) FIFTY DOLLARS. Are you kidding me? Multiply that by 10 and maybe you're close. It is also good to have a saddle or two and maybe even a diaper (depending on how crazy you are). I have one just in case. They are not someting that you can pick up at walmart when you need it. Many of these things I can't find around here so I wish I would have had them BEFORE I needed them. The roo that was attacked is not growing in his feathers and the others are pecking him, hence all this pecking stuff. I have ordered, but have not yet received, my order from eggcartons.com. They also had vetrx which I got, just in case, as I have never seen it around here.

Good luck, sounds like you're going to be a good chicken parent!

oh, DE although it is not really a medicine.
