Yes SCG the ones on the girls doesn't get real big the boys get much longer and when they are displaying they get even longer.
Had to put the poor stargazing poult down today. I have to say thank you to the Sherrif or Kathy (not sure who mentioned it) for the advice on the starter fluid. It worked like a charm, no suffering for the poult or for me. I wound up with four chicks to and they are running around the brooder with the poults now having fun. Overall, not too bad. I also have broodies and I am sooooooooooooooo tempted to sneak a few turkey eggs under them to see how that would go. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Closed container, a little starter fluid on a rag, drop the rag in and close the lid. It will put the animal down fairly quickly. We used to use it for rabbits and guinea pigs when my son was in 4H and an animal needed to be put down.
Quick *stupid* question... why does it look like my poults (who are incredibly sweet and wonderful by the way...

thanks more than words Dsqard) have a unicorn like head protrusion?
I already had you in my multi quote, but I see you have been responded to several times already.

My hatch is all done. I got 15 tutors, one with very crooked toes and one that was very fragile and did not make it. I got 3 poults. One healthy and great, the other two could not stand up nor lift their heads. I propped them up in cups and after about 24 hours they were able to lift their heads. Today they are walking around and you wouldn't know there had been a problem.

Pictures later. First I have to go outside and watch the chickens with my margarita in my hand (well, and pressed to my lips).

I've got a pip. Come on little turkey. It is in a X egg from Lotsapaints. I put 5 in lock down but I think 2 or 3 were quitters. I've hatched out !out 35 tutors for the poults. I hope I end up with more than 1 poult for them to train. Lots of the tutors are Icelandics.

Not a great picture as he refused to hold still ... lots of courting still to do...

We need more turkey pictures! Thanks for posting this Shawn!

I have a general question. I started getting popups, if that is the right term, for advertisements while on BYC. Does this happen to anyone else? How do I stop them--it's distracting and covers too much of my screen.

I will occasionally get sound from adds that come into the top spot for ads (upper right) but no true pop-ups. There should be a pop-up blocker with your browser that will take care of that, I don't think it is a result of being on BYC.

I have seen an ad for a book called "Gardening with Chickens" or something like that. I never clicked on it although I intended to. I have since turned the ads off, taking advantage of my new GFM! If someone sees that ad, get the true name and link for me, if possible. Thanks!

I had 6 fuzz-butts under the broody last night, and 5 in the brooder (2 that hatched in the incubator and 3 I brought in to supervise hatching.) I haven't gone out to check on the broody this morning but wanted to ask a couple of questions. First, is it okay to put the brooder babies under the hen during the day if she is still on the nest with chicks and eggs? Second, how long before I make her get out to feed the chicks and will that mean taking the unhatched eggs out of the nest so she isn't tempted to set longer?

Which one do you have?
I have IE (Windows Vista) and all you do is click on the browser icon on the desktop, go to "tools" and then "pop-up blocker"... try that....if it is a different system....I don't know.

I have a book "Free-Range Chicken Gardens", by Jessi Bloom. Could that be what you are looking for? I bought it through amazon.
