First Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon- Join us! Set Day: Easter

SCG, Cool pic..........now I'll have Thriller in my head all night! Thanks alot!

I have three. I'm pretty sure it's two toms and one hen. The two are much larger and their heads turn red when they get excited. The smaller one's head looks more bluish and it is not as vocal as the other two. No gobbling or strutting yet. I'll have to get a pic of all three of them together for a comparison.

I had Thriller in my head for about 12 hours thanks to that photo. Glad to spread the insanity.

I'd love to see pictures of everyone's poults!

Well here are my poults from a week or two ago. They are still in protective custody in the photos The BRs were sold, so I only have 2 midget whites now. I will have some more midget whites and pencil palms in the incubator tomorrow.

Is the black with white the pencil palm??

On another note:
I have a customer that wants to EAT the turkey eggs, I finally had to explain that I hatch them, and come fall she can eat them.Fall did not compute as we have a language barrier--so I repeated using October, November, etc. THen it sunk in.

I would like to hatch a few more before summer is over, they should be big enough to handle the winter.

No, the Pencil Palm are just getting put in the incubator tomorrow, that's just a mix chicken turkey tutor.

Now I can see the feathery neck--silly me. Cute though!

My two poults, Edith and Edna, are so freakin' adorable I nearly cannot stand it.

They're very friendly, extremely curious, and fit in very well with the rest of my flock. They love roosting on the next-to-the-highest bar on one of the ladder roosts. Edna is my *cough* favorite and she will go to sleep on my lap if I skritch her chest or back. I love the way they hoot around in the yard, either caling for each other or just ... well.. hooting around.

I totally embarrassed myself one day when watching the flock as my contractor was present, working. Edith and Edna were a few feet away, being adorable and making their usual happy noises. I blurted, "Don't you think my little hooters are cute?!?!?!"

He turned his head to look at me, very slowly and speculatively - but at eye level. By then I realized what I'd said, and hurried to explain, "I mean the turkey poults! The way they hoot all the time!"

Lordy.

But honestly, doesn't everyone adore his/her poults and their little hooty sounds??

Yup, the turkeys are special , a customer loves the way the poults fall asleep on her hand and had to come get 3 more!!! My 3 toms just follow me every where, can't get a darn thing done. ANd it's only me they do this to--the price of raising them, I guess.

Here are my three with a couple of their tutors. You can see how red the two toms (in the front) are compared to the hen in the back:

Here's a close-up one showing the head difference:

I agree on the little hooters comment... although my turkeys aren't hooting, they're still peeping. They play a funny game of peeping Marco-Polo with their tutors. It's hilarious to see them call their silkie. I have to say, I was totally against froufrou silkies for years, but I am absolutely in love with my little showgirl. And this silkie that I hatched with the turkeys is pretty cute, too, although I prefer the naked neck.

Great photos, NotAFarm... I don't see where the oh what is the hoojiggy called... the unicorn thing... whatever, the THING on the face, I don't see that it's much bigger in the boys. But I can see a total difference in the head and neck color.

I know I've said I hatch a ton of girls, but I'm thinking that all 3 of my chick tutors and now both of my poults are girls. I'm not certain, of course, but it's looking likely.
