I'm setting midget whites, what type are the rest of you setting ?

Sorry about the the thumb in the egg!! I have that happen when I'm cleaning chicken eggs on rare occasions. always shocks me. So unexpected!

I put in a request, but the turkey hens will decide the mix. I'm getting a surprise. THis is better than Christmas!

Who am I missing?

I have eggs in the mail!

...and guess what? Something arrived today that I shall set at the same time! Brown Chinese Goose eggs!!

I have a pair of rescued ganders that are just the sweetest boys in the world, and they need girlfriends. I'm afraid I'll never find any, so I'm hatching some.

I'm hatching:
From Zookeeper Bourbon Red covering a Bourbon Red, a Royal Palm, and a Black Spanish.

From Lotsapaints I am setting ???

Maybe my hen will lay again. She lays 2 eggs and takes 2-3 weeks off. It has almost been 3 weeks since her last egg so who knows. She usually doesn't lay until May/June, though. I have a Royal Palm tom covering a Standard Bronze. I have 2 poults going on 3 weeks old from them, another egg due Saturday and another due next Saturday. I'm trading Cochin eggs with somebody in Colorado for Royal Palm eggs in a week or two.

Wow is this "normal"? My hen started laying about three weeks ago. She started off with every other day now she is laying every day. She is getting a little more possessive about the eggs too. Seems sad every day when I take them away. SCG, I saw Tom doing his "duty" again yesterday so the hopes are up that the eggs should be fertile!

I'm setting Midget Whites, Palms and a few mixes, all from Denny. And the chicken companions.........those were ordered for next week months ago, araucanas & silkie/showgirls. I think I might have to sort out the little guys,

My hen isn't normal. She is 5 or 6 years old and I never had a tom for her. Last year she attempted to hatch Guinea eggs but the Guinea decided to help her at the end and they fought over the eggs killing the keet. The year before nothing. The 2 years before that she hatched out a chick each year. She was the best mom. That chick would climb all over her. What is the lifespan of a turkey anyways?

My first batch of eggs ARRIVED safely. One did not survive my handling though, put my thumb through a shell.

That's a shame, but not your fault. The shell really shouldn't be weak enough for you to do that easily, turkey eggs are especially hard to crack. I give my eggs a good squeeze before I ship them to try to weed out any thin shells. They do happen occasionally.

I think that's a pretty good age for a turkey, Jim!

Edited to add - Wikipedia says the average lifespan is 10 years.

I may have to start late. I am getting mixed eggs from a friend in the next county and her hens have started hiding the eggs from her. She said she would try to find the nest and mark the eggs so I can get the freshest ones. If the hens cooperate, I will pick them up Saturday. I hope to set six (I...........ummm, I mean...... DH already has two) so maybe I won't end up with too many.
