First Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon- Join us! Set Day: Easter

I decided to tape the cracks in the shell instead of waxing. THe hot wax concerned me and both have chemicals. Tape was easier. Also concerned that taping over the aircell will cause problems due to the location, location, location.

I hope the BR hatches, male or female it will add fresh blood.

I haven't given up. I have notes of temps and humidity %'s every day of the hatch. I used a digital thermo/hygro and two glass aquarium thermos. They always agreed. My temps were really pretty steady, I did have a couple of drops to 97.(which may be why they're late.) My humidity seemed fine, too. The air cells progressed very close to the diagram. I haven't had any stinkers and the ones I pulled, were clear at lockdown. I left everything else because I have no experience with candling. I appreciate the offer, but I just don't know why they are not hatching........

if I only had that problem, Deb..... I'm hoping to "sneak" in a batch of eggs and maybe just maybe the hubby won't notice. what are the chances??

They will also recognize local/regional Holidays, we had no mail on Good Friday.

It looks like there should be mail delivery Monday.

I'm with you Wisher1000. I have 6 piped ducks for the easter hatch. I told them they need to hurry it up, and are being rather rude to the awaiting turkey eggs.
I put my turkey eggs on hold. I still have 42 eggs in the bator for Mahonri's Easter Hatch and no signs of hatching. No peeps, no pips, no wigglers, no nuttin'. I am going to give them a day or three and will not be able to start the turkeys with you guys. Truthfully, if I don't get any chicks from these eggs, I may never try hatching again......

I think too many people had early hatches on the Easter Hatch, I'm only really 6 hours into hatch day.

I find that tape tends to get moisture under it. I use melted crayons because they are non-toxic. They really don't get that hot and cool down quickly. I have gotten it on my skin lots of times and while it is hot at first it cools down quickly and isn't hot enough to burn the skin.

Yay! I got my eggs last night. The lady had 10 and they are bourbon Red turkey eggs. I also got a few quail, silkie and welsummer eggs that she had too. And on a side note my duck eggs are hatching today! They were not supposed to be here until Tuesday. I guess they wanted to be Easter ducks, and Birthday ducks (it's my birthday today too, I am now officially 30).

On the Easter Hatch along, many participants went will the flow of mailed eggs = set when they could as close to the set date as possible. Maybe OP will clarify.

What do you have for turkeys? And what are you getting??

I'm setting today, and for most turkey eggs, it appears this will be correct for Cinco de Mayo. Some may take a couple of days more. Same goes for my geese: 28-32 days.

I'm counting on you guys to come up with contests if you'd like, because it appears I'm going to be very busy with work (blast that nonsensical productivity thing!!) and helping a friend with her farm. Too busy, methinks. It's already been decreasing my leisure time.

Anyway, set when you like, because they are apparently not quite as predictable as chicken eggs!

I have to clean out my LGs and Rcom, because I'm going to have to modify the Farmgirl NQB8R. It's not keeping temps stable for night.

I'll be setting some of these under broodies. I have a couple of big girls with attitude, so it's good timing.

Off to check for carnage now- got into the 30s overnight and I got home very late- I'm not sure if hubby turned on the heater in the brooder outside, and the ecoglows wouldn't have been enough for 2 wk old chicks...I'm soooo sorry I didn't think to ask him then...but I was exhausted after work.

You're a baby! Soooo young. The 30s are awesome.

Welcome to your 30s! It's not as bad as you think.

BAD? the 30's were awesome! That's one decade I'd go back to (unlike the teens and twenties.) It was absolutely the best! Enjoy every minute of it. The forties are good, but a bit more sedate, the fifties are where things start to unravel.......

I went out to the coop to let the birds out for the day. I let them out through the run door, as usual, and heard a "cheep" from inside the coop. I have an area in there were I keep the feed and the brooder. The chicks (and DH's two poults) have been in there for over a week and I have never heard them from outside the coop. I went to investigate and as soon as I opened the door, there was one of the poults standing in the doorway! I guess it's time for a top on the brooder.

When I bought the poults (my, er DH's first evers) I chose the biggest, thinking it might be a tom - and the smallest, thinking it might be a hen. I realise there is no way of knowing, but I thought I'd try. Well, they both have tiny protrusions at the top of their beaks that I assume are their "snoods." The one on the smaller poult is much larger than the one on the larger poult. Does that mean anything at this point? They were bought as day olds on Friday of last week (3/30) so they are a week and a half old. Any guesses?
