First Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon- Join us! Set Day: Easter

we have one big doe that just stands there when we yell at her.. she bats her eyes.. wiggles her tail and stands there.. if you take a step towards her she will take one step back.. if you run at her she will back off.. then as soon as you turn your back she comes right back up behind you.. absolutely no fear of people at all.. she has even brought her babies around..
I know the drought we had last summer didn't help any.. we had on average 18 deer in our front yard any given evening. At least this spring has been pretty wet (for us).. so there's plenty out there for them to eat

Sounds to me like someone has been feeding them, so they have no fear and think you should give them something. Be very careful, because more people get hurt by deer than any other animal. They can be very vicious when threatened, and hoofs like razon blades. Maybe shooting with blanks or bb gun to scare them off? I'm not into hunting, so don't know anything about guns.

nope.. these guys are wild.. just not many people around here so they don't realize people are supposed to be a threat.. they see where the other animals aren't afraid of us.. so they figure we must be ok.. in all honesty there are a ton of deer around here.. it's not unusual to see some get hit in town and on the highway it's normal to see at least a few dead deer along side the road. At the feed store they have to chase the deer away from the hay bales.. lol

I still need to clean out bator from Easter Hatch . . . better get on that. LOL Guess I'll put the 2 pheasant eggs that aren't due until Monday in brooder under heat lamp while I do that. Or maybe I should wait until Monday after pheasants hatch (if they hatch).

Would it still be a Cinco de Mayo hatch???

I won't be able to set until tomorrow -ACTUAL HATCH DAY- Dang SCG you are getting as bad as Mahonri

I still have eggs hatching from the Easter hatch. I am pretty sure that the ones left in the Brinsea are "done" but I have a few more going in the styrobator. I have one zipping right now. I did have one chick hatch that must have bled out the umbilical. Poor chick didn't make it.

I will have to really hit that bator really well with some chlorine mix before I use it. Good deal is that I went to the pet store today to get some baby parrot food for any chicks that are a little slow to thrive and I found a really good digital thermometer/hygrometer for the styrobator. It has sensors that you put inside and run wires out the vent. The guy working at the store said he has used it for his reptiles and it works good. I just want to have an idea what the humidity is in there. I do not belive the one that is built in to the bator especially since it says "for reference only" right on it.
SCG - I hope your finger isn't broken. If you can't think of anything that would have caused the swelling and the bruising, look for a spider bite.

Yeah, right now I'm kind of stuck. I have three Genesis 1588. Two of them have 39 eggs split between them for the Easter hatch. The third has 11 Lakenvelder eggs going into lockdown tonight. One of the first two needs to finish up by tomorrow so I can set the 11 turkey eggs.

And then someone needs to slap me, I have 5-6 dozen chicken eggs being shipped to me from three different sources on Monday.

I need someone to stop me!!!!!!!!!! My DH is an enabler, he just keeps building coops/runs.

Just pour whatever coffee is left in the pot out there, and toss your grounds around them to increase acidity. I do that with my Azaleas. Had a friend whose mom had an AMAZING rhododendron
outside her kitchen window, and she told me this was her secret.

Regarding the rabbits, a friend makes a 'wrap' around her berries with hardware cloth, fairly close to the base, so no room inside the cage to get in, and it protects the base. Don't know if this will help, but I had a huge clay pot that had the bottom broken out, and I put it upside-down over the top of one of my asters to protect it, and it grew up out of the top. Looks pretty cool, too!

I think I'll alert all the garden centers that I'll buy their broken pots if the top is still intact. That could look really neat!

Anyone who has soil to alkaline for Blueberries should try Honeyberries. They like limey soil and are very blueberry like

Thanks for all the good ideas! I forgot about the coffee grounds.
