First Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon- Join us! Set Day: Easter

Hi everyone I'm back from my brother's going to get my chores done and I'm going to candle my eggs that are cooking then add my turkeys tomorrow mine really do mostly hatch on day 27 on eggs that have been shipped no biggie leaving them big end up in a turner or carton for a week then turn them it helps with the air cells and I do the dry hatch too-I live where it is dry so I just make sure the humidity stays close to 35% and bump it up to 55% or a little more for hatch.

Question for chooks chick and any one with LG experience,

I put two thermometers side by side on the egg carton center nesled between the two rows of eggs. The fish tank thermometer reads 100. The human thermometer reads 102.4--this reads and holds the highest temperature. Is spiking temps normal for the LG?

Working on setting up the LG for turkey eggs--a challenge. Had to think about the best set up, or rather what variable will I tweak this time:

I tried shipped egg on their sides the first time; this time I'm putting them in egg cartons and let them be for a few days.

I have looked into my eggs and don't even see an air cell yet. Is this good? Or bad?

ANd yes, I'm going nuts again.

i hardly ever see an air cell in a freshly laid egg.. if the egg is older you probably need a stronger light for candleing

I have a LG that I modified for hatching emu eggs.. since they are a "thin walled" styro bator I have found that they are affected by the room's temperature that they are in more than a heavily insulated incubator is.. so in other words.. try to keep them in stable room temps and they won't have as big of a temperature swing.. you can insulate them with heavy towels or even a blanket (just be sure to leave the air holes unobstructed if you do insulate it).

here in Texas when it gets into the 100's outside I can't use the LG at all (we don't use AC here) .. even with the darn thing turned off it still gets way too hot
