First Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon- Join us! Set Day: Easter

Well that was quick! Wisher1000 is now an official member

Congrats Wisher!

I have 4 9-mo toms that free range. THe grain guy is afraid of them and door to door sales ladies know that they should be afraid of them! My toms are sweet--just had to protect the sales ladies nylons.

I should have let the toms make a run in those perfect nylons--that would keep her from coming back.

So cute together. THe emu clear wants company!

CONGRATS Wisher!!!

One of our mail carriers was terrified of the geese... we gave away the adults a few years ago because she refused to deliver our mail when she saw them.. funny thing is they were in a pen away from the door.. but she knew they were going to fly over the fence and attack her... well.. she's no longer our carrier.. so we have geese again.. and are hatching out some shipped eggs!

Yeah.. the emu chick was lonely.. not doing much but staring at he walls of the brooder.. figured I would give him a buddy.. I missed the best shot though.. one of the chick sitting on the emu's back

Go check here to see what benefits you now have....I like choosing my own "title" and getting rid of the ads!!

Yinepu, The emu really seems to appreciate the company!! soooo cute!

He seems to be a lot happier now.. they were snuggling together the last time I checked on them

lol.. I need to check into that golden feather membership....

I was gone most of the weekend off and on. I have 9 chicks out and nothing from the 3 turkey eggs that made it to lockdown. I think I see a pip way in the back, so hopefully they aren't finished yet. I did get more blue AMs though. I fot online and I have 222 posts to catch up to and still have to leave for a couple of hours later on, so I oened from where I left off and I'll try to catch up later.

I think my hatch is done. I ended up with 16 live poults- 3 Bourbon Red (1 is a real runt but doing fine) , 4 Black Winged Bronze, and 9 Standard Bronze. I had two other eggs pip but die (1 actually fully zipped). I have the remaining 6 eggs still in the incubator just in case. I am actually pretty happy with those results. Tomorrow the incubator will get cleaned and put away until next year.

Put away? That's crazy talk!

I know you'll be posting pics of it on the Icelandic thread...right?!

....might show up?

What's next on the docket for you?
YES, I'll post pics of her when she gets home on the Icelandic thread.

You know, a couple of miles from me is a ranch. I drive past it at least two to three times per week. I always think about stopping to see if they'd be interested in Icelandic chickens (although I only have the two chicks and my luck they are probably both the same sex

). Anyway, they raise Icelandic horses. They could get a real theme going if they added chickens and dogs.

Speaking of chicks, Mary I need to post pictures of my two little ones, maybe you could give me an idea of the color I can expect. They are similarily marked, but one is much redder.

And me??? I have struggled to hatch shipped serama eggs. Tried it twice. Each time half made it to lockdown, but never a pip. I was going to quit but decided to give it one more try. I have a group of 8 (3.5) birds that were given to me by a local BYCer. The problem is there isn't much variety to the color and they are all very closely related. I'd back myself into a corner genetically. I do have 8 of their eggs set right now (day 3) to see if the problem is just shipping is so hard on them (not much bigger than a quail egg). So I do have a set of serama eggs coming in the next couple of weeks.

Other than that, I have a few more chicks coming. I did a reorder on a few breeds. It was totally unnatural, I ordered three breeds, eight each. Got one pullet per breed and the rest cockerels. I'm hoping for a better outcome this time around. I also have a group of turkeys coming from Porter's. I got so into this whole turkey hatch, I decided to go for some different breeds. What's one more pen, right?

Do you know if any are "cart" trained? I would love to have a cart trained Icelandic Horse. We live in a large Amish area, so all the stores are setup for cart and buggy parking. On nice spring and fall days those little open carts look fun.
Not certain what happened with the quote, but I think you had a good hatch.

Maybe not tomorrow but soon.

All three tutors have hatched, and 1 poult with 2 or 3 more pipped, hard to tell with the poult running around moving all the eggs. The important thing is we have at least one turkey!

Went to grab chicks out of the Sportsman and after the first 2 trips I still had one to try and get. Put the flashlight on it and another chick just popped the top off it's egg, so I closed it up for now. Still now turkeys though, but since I'm still getting chicks, maybe they'll hatch for me too.

So now I'm officially done with the hatch. 22 chicks out of 27 eggs(from 30) that made it to lockdown. The chicks are in the brooder, the incubator is washed and clean, and put away for next time. I know most of you aren't done with the hatch yet, so good luck!!

Thought I'd grab the last 2 out before I leave and there's 3 and more pips. NOW I remember how a hatch is supposed to go! Wish the turkeys were doing something though.

Caught up with all the posts, so hopefully it will be easier to keep up later. Yeah right!
