After being inspired by the women on this board that have been processing their chickens I purchased 25 cornish x this past week. I got 25 and all were alive on arrival Thursday and are looking great! Took 2 days to get to NH from Ioha hatchery (name eludes me right now but begins with an S and someone on this thread recommended them). They are pretty darn cute right now!

Congrats! I too have decided recently to start raising meat birds and feel really great about the decision, we are going to start with any roosters and then next year raise Cornish. Please keep us posted, would love to hear your experience! Good Luck!
Oh, and they are very cute

you have grass and you have shade, as i see. if you let them free range, you'll get very good chickens to process. bravo!!!

I did it solo last year-I swore I would never do it again-but I have to tell you I have 1-2 chickens left in my freezer and I dont like it being so empty:( If I could get just 10 this time I would go for it again as I would let them out to free range this time to see how it winds up in the end! Good luck and congrats..( PS I had a bunch of friends chip in and help process all of them in one day or else I couldnt have done it in such a timely manner) Next time I will process out 2-3 at a time and track weights as they grow to see if there's a big difference as each week passes past process date:)

hubby built a tractor that is 5 ft x 10 ft on wheels that I will move each day - when feasible I will let some out with me in the yard as long as they don't take off on me. Being new to this my fear is they will scramble and I won't be able to get them but from what I hear food is their biggest motivation so hopefully it won't be an issue.

I raised some this spring and was so pleased with them. First time I had raised them and processed, and the processed birds were huge and gorgeous. In fact I have one in the crock pot right now that I had cut in pieces; the breast is so big it looks like a turkey breast. Ill be making several dozen chicken burritos to freeze, and a big bowl of chicken salad.

Ill be raising some more this fall. Good luck with yours!

They look just like my new little batch of fuzzy butts! This will be my second batch this year and so far so good. They are a week old now. Hoping to put them in the tractor next week some time. Congrats on your new little ones and good luck to you. They are very endearing!!!
