First batch of eggs ever starting today!

Phew, okay here is what happened with my hatch. 10 in the bator, 1 hatched, with 6 pips. Nothing happened, and nothing continued to happen, so I had to help all of them. All were SEVERELY shrink wrapped except their beaks where they had the pip hole (obviously except the one that managed to hatch). What the heck??? The bator was not opened how did this happen??? I had the humidity about 35-40% the first 18 days and then 65-70% for lockdown...UGH
So needless to say, I helped all hatch, 1 appeared to have died on day 17 or so, and another never internally pipped, and one ruptured a blood vessel. Today, I lost one, It wasn't walking (the others are running full blast!) it was eating and drinking..then all of a sudden it was lethargic, head droopy etc so I held it until it died :(.
I am trying to upload pictures but it isn't working!!! So, I'll try later on.
One died in your hand?

Mine went into lockdown today!

I have some that I put in the bator I use for lock down tonight. Tomorrow is offically lock down. Ameraucana blue, black, and splash. Little worried. The air sacs on some are going up the side pretty high. That can be a problem according to where they pip. So crossing my fingers I get some out of these.

Squwak, when you candled, did you notice any high air sacs? That could have been the problem. Just guessing. There is a lot of extra air in some of those! Then, they can't reach the egg shell, they die. I have no idea why these eggs of mine have those crazy air sacs this time.

Yup, it died in my hands yesterday (4 days old)
I don't understand why they got shrink wrapped though?? They would never have made it out if I hadn't helped them.
Here's pics.. the dark brownish one that is standing up is the one that died, it looks sad in the picture, poor baby.

Waiting for veins to dry

What colors will they be?

Cute babies! You did good!! Cochins?

Hey, where did you get your thermometer and hydrometer??

I got it at Walmart for around ten bucks. It is proving to be extremely accurate. When I calibrated the hygrometer it was bang on, and the temperature measures what my heat gun says. The brand is Bios Weather.
Yes, they are all Cochins.

So yesterday was day 19 and I had to go spend the day with my sister. DH called me when he got home from work and told me that one of the Icelandics was halfway hatched! WHAT?! I now have 9 Icelandics hatched and several more pipped. I also have one Delaware pipped.

I've been gone for a while. Honestly I didn't know how much of my attention these guys would take up. I ended up with 15 eggs that I thought would make it and threw out the rest because they were no longer developing. Last week I went on lock down on Monday and everyone was supposed to hatch either Thursday or Friday. I ended up with a couple hatching on Saturday morning and one Saturday night too.

13 eggs hatched with healthy chicks. One chick fell into some water and drowned :(. I was sad, I knew that was possible but thought I'd protected against it. One chick went into the brooder and somehow got trampled by the rest of them. It seemed like he just fell asleep and the others kind of used him as a mattress...that was unfortunate. The other 11 are doing very well and two eggs didn't hatch at all so they went in the trash.

I had one that had splayed legs but I caught it early and band aided them together. He looks like the only boy from what I can tell of the wings and he seems to be doing really well with walking around now. I've got one chick that's huge (I think it was the first to hatch) and one chick that's tiny (the last to hatch) but the rest of them are all about the same size. They all look the same to me so I used some dye (not poisonous) to tell them apart until I start to get used to the differences.

They are already starting to grow in feathers which is interesting since I didn't realize they would grow so fast. Better get on that chicken coop soon!
