First batch of eggs ever starting today!

I had wondered what happened to you.
I had the same thing happen!!! Although, it may sound silly (but useful!), but for about 10 minutes after it died, I worked like crazy using little chest compressions and blowing into its beak, and it worked and it's now a fiesty week old chick!!! My favorite because I saved it

One chick fell into some water and drowned :(. I was sad, I knew that was possible but thought I'd protected against it.

I have never hear of chicken CPR. I am glad it worked for you!

The results of my very first hatch. I started with 42 eggs. On day 10, I tossed 11. I had a total of 22 eggs hatch, 14 Icelandics and 8 Delawares.

Hillbilly, very nice..not bad, first hatch? Really. You did great.

Here are mine. I didn't do as well this time. I only had three make it with 8 in lock down. That's the worst hatch I've had in a long time.
supposed to be pure Ameraucanas. I am wondering about the chipmunk one..

As am I! I used the "swing method" often used on newborn puppies to force the fluid from the lungs into the mouth/nostrils and then used cpr, and it worked great, I was relieved when I heard faint chirps after it had previously been hanging loosely and obviously dead. It was kind of gross to stick my mouth over the beak and nostrils to blow air in but whatever works

That is so funny! I was worried mine would do the same thing so I moved them to a bigger space. A small bin seemed to be too little space for 11 chicks. Now they all have lots of room in large side plastic kid pool with chicken wire around the outside so they can't get out. As soon as I put them in there they started scratching around everywhere and then flying at each other. I hadn't seen that before, maybe it's a dominance thing?

I definitely considered chick cpr but I think it was way too late by the time I got there...it was too bad but I'm glad yours came back to life! I'm just surprised at how big they already seem to be getting and they are taking in so much food and water I'm going to have to go take a shopping trip again for them soon. It's a fun experience.

I just started some eggs on friday .I have 13 from my reds .this is my first time and in my homemade incubator.. i am very excited but for some reason very nervous...
