Hello, I’m sorry if this has been asked before.

I have incubated eggs and candled them at the recommended periods. Do I need to do the same with the eggs my hen is hatching herself? This is both of our first times dealing with this so I’m wanting to make sure it goes as well as can be. Any tips/advice is great. It’s been about a week since she started sitting on the eggs so I know I’d see something if it were going on when I candle.

Thanks!

You can candle if you want to, but it's not necessary. Since it's her first week, it might be feasible to candle the eggs, and if they're not fertile, place some new ones under her. That depends on how much being broody impacts your hen

I would recommend candling on days 10 and 17. This way you can get any nonviable eggs out of there, just to make sure there’s no chance of there being any complications.
