Hi All!! I'm new to the board ... I've had my first flock of wonderful chciekns for just over a year now. One of my hens, Miss Crabby, has gone broody and is sitting on a nest of eggs for the first time. I'm so excited!! I'm going to candle the eggs tonight for the first time. She should be around day 8 or 9. If any eggs hatch, it will happen around my sons 12th birthday, which is so cool!!

hi , you might want to mark the eggs as well , if other hens can get to the nest. The others will still lay there when the broody gets up, you check periodically and remove the newly laid eggs. This way your hen will get up when the chicks hatch.

Thanks so much for the suggestion!! I actually had my husband build a "broody hut" and moved the eggs and Miss Crabby to it. The broody hut is near the regulat chicken run so she can still hear and see the other girls and Chief, my rooster, and they can see her. We thought that would be better for her. She seems very happy with the arrangement!
