Congrats! I also had a broody sitting on eggs. She crushed two of the eggs. One egg that was crushed never developed, but the other egg was developed and was moving around so I figured everything would be fine and I let nature take its course. Unfortunately, the chick didn't make it through the night. I am really sick to my stomach and sad too and I just need to vent. There was peeping from another egg and so my hubby and I took it out from under our broody b/c we were afraid she would crush it and we OPENED the egg! Never, never, never, do this...I guess we needed to let nature take its course. I set it under the heat lamp and it ended up dying. I am terribly sad and just needed to vent.

sorry for your loss....i was thinking that i should have tried to open the last egg once the chicken left it alone but now that you tell me what happened maybe mine would have died also. all ten of my baby chicks are doing good so far....i will take some new pictures soon and post them.

thanks to everyone. i will try to post recent pics.....theres only 9 left from the 10.....there's a hawk flying around my home and he ate one of the lil chicks. he wanted to eat more but i heard and came out and scared him away.......

to damselfish.....hi u know i didnt realize that the white one with the spots on its head was the one the hawk ate till you mentioned it.....i saw your post and went to look, and that one is the one missing.
