Hens start to lay between 20-25 weeks old. I personally feel that no coop is complete without a cochin. They don't have a reputation for being big egg layers, but every cochin that I have had has layed steadily longer than other others... i.e. they don't taper off as they age as much as say a leghorn which lays really well for a few years and then not as much. Plus cochins are the sweetest, most social chickens I have ever had. They are also great mothers. I have one girl that goes broody every summer and I slip some eggs under her and she raises the chicks. And who can resist a fluffy chicken that looks like she's wearing parachute pants when she runs? Good Luck on everything!
