Hello people! . I'd like to know if any of you have had a hen go broody, and only lay one egg. That's it,,,,,,one egg. This is the eleventh day she's set on that one egg. She gets up to eat drink and poo, then right back on the egg. We lost 4 hens to a predator. She's the last mature hen. We introduced 4 newbies to her and the rooster, and everyone got along fine so they are all in the coop now (after 6 weeks) We thought she was lonley, and or trying to just escape the roo, but she's pretty serious about that one egg. No others, she's only laid that one, and no others. Strange or what? She / they are Orpingtons.

My Buff Orprington went broody - for the first time - on 3 eggs. Only one was hers. At about day 7, she stole another hen's egg to make 4, but I removed it because I didn't want a staggered hatch. That is, of course, if this project of hers is successful. She's on day 11 now.
