Vinnie, what a great looking coop. You've done a great job and I like the way you have your swing positioned just right so you can sit, relax and watch the flock. I think my next coop will look something like this.

That is really nice, we just added new chicken nests to our coop for the winter from large round food grade plastic tubs filled them with shavings shelfed them so neatly two rows started at about a foot off the ground. The chickens have no desire to sleep in there they still sleep in a huddle on the floor of the coop ?????? wonder if they will ever use them?

Thanks for all the kind words everyone I'll keep you posted as I go along.I hope to have everything done when I get the chickens in the spring. My family and I can't wait.
Vinnie

The thing with broody hens... Good if you want more chicks. Bad if you have no rooster. LOL. Some breeds are prone to be more broody. You can keep chucking them out of the nest box. Set them in a wire bottom cage for a few days, till they get over it. Or just find them some fertilized eggs and get chicks. Sell the chicks when they are old enough, enjoy the new girls, and eat the boys. Great chicken soup birds those cockerels are.

Avoid bantam cochins, cochins, and silkies if you want to avoid broody chickens. LOL. Not a guarantee that they won't go broody though.
