So before I ordered the Halloween batch of chicks, there was Princess Pie. She came from Tractor Supply with her friend Nugget (who didn’t make it). Pie grew at a consistent rate of one pound per week of age on gamebird crumble and whatever she ranged during the day — it was so remarkable we were sure she was a cockerel til I posted on the gender forum (thanks!).

Her final age and weight was 6 weeks 6 days and 6 lb 15 oz. It was getting harder for her to run and jump; she was just waddling a lot of the timeShe was a beauty though (except when she played in dirty water). Here she is snacking on the Swiss chard Thursday (6 lb 9 oz):

This morning she dressed out at 5 lbs 5 oz. Here’s our glorious Halloween dinner ready to bag up:

I won’t be posting every bird ever, but Pie was our special girl! :love

Also a lot of people helped with our hot weather issues — thank you so much!

I was wondering if you would be able to do the deed, because of all the effort you put into to her. I tend to get attached to the special needs.
Glad she is making a good dinner :love

Yeah, I get attached. :) But somehow when it’s time, in my mind they just become that very awesome creature that is giving us the best gift ever. Once in a while it’s still hard though.

Pie really needed to go —she was so big I think she was uncomfortable.

She looks like she tasted good. I have one (I’m not gonna eat her) but she’s like 8 or 9 months, I forget. She would probably be the size of a turkey. I wanna raise another one this old and see how much meat she has.
