FIRST CROW !!

We have( Roos) French Toast , Sausage, (Hens )Biscuts, Waffles, Saltine . We found a home for one Roo who was named Pancakes .
Billy Bob (the rooster) is the only one with a name, sooner or later some of the girls will become chicken pot pie and I don't want to be sitting down to dinner and realize that it's Gertrude on my plate.

not sure if it's true, but I've heard if you plan on making your chicken into dinner, not to name them :)
I can’t help but name the animals I work with... it just sort of happens, granted some of my names are just the numbers on their ear tags. Last year my favorite steers were named TwentyFour, PoopyButt, WartyMouth, LittleGirly. After a year of grooming all 8 of them, training them, hugging them; they all went into the freezer. It’s sad, but they had an exceptional quality of life.

I feel even if an animal is going to be dinner, while it’s alive it’s an individual and deserves respect and care. I think for me a name is just natural regardless of the animals destination. Ask me again though next year... I’m planning on running meat birds this summer, and 100-200 names might push my creativity!

Might push the creativity but it will fill the freezer. I agree with your statement of care and responsibility when treating the animals as we would want to be treated. Dignity, respect, purpose and most of all to know love.

Lol Mine usually only can get "er er ooooh" for awhile
As he does the er er ooooh finish the rest for him to show him what to do...
Kinda of like when I teach my kids to say daddy is #1.
Oh wait don't let anyone or the neighbors see you as they may think you have a few screws loose.
:lau:lau
