First Crow!!!

I sit outside with them and make crowing noises to try to get them started.

I would like to see a video of this occurrence.

4-6 weeks to first crow huh? I may be safe then as mine are that old and haven't crowed. Thank goodness as they're all too small to fry and I'd have to cull the roo. Noise ordinence in the city would lose me my flock and CList is full of unwanted roos right now. Oops!

Ah, to live in the country.

Mine are 12 weeks today and they only started crowing about a week ago. My last batch, which are a year old started sooner than that.

I have six Columbian Rock Cross (along with an EE and Production Red). The first one crowed a nice normal sound at about four weeks. Then today (six weeks) I was outside reinforcing the run (stupid cats!!) when I heard a blood curdling scream! I thought someone had been attacked!! By the time I got to the coop door I realized what I had heard. Stupid rooster! I had tried for girls, but it looks like of the six Columbian, four or five are roosters. So much for eggs. I am even checking local shelters. A few roosters need a home. The only pullet is "indoor home only". Has anyone ever heard of chickens that HAD to live indoors?
