First Day :)

Cindy, it looks like you are just about there!! Congrats.

I'm at the end of day 19 on my 'one' egg. Hopefully 'she' will start rocking or peeping soon.

Turtle, wondered if you were still keeping up with this thread?? What breed is your one egg?
In a egg package I got this week, I got a Cream Brabanter egg as a freebie. I set it with the white rock banties.

Hi MagsC, my one egg is a silkie mix. Partridge silkie roo with 4 likely hen candidates. RIR, NHR, white rock, or black sexlink.

I hope it hatches

23 chicks, how exciting! one more/?
Tonight is the last time I turn the eggs, 3 days till my hatching!
I still have to turn the sebrights and last I candled, the 6 white eggs were not developing.
It rained all day so the 5 baby bantys Barred Rock Cochens stayed in the kitchen all day, in their box.
I am going to make them a better "home" this weekend.
I dont' have a humidity gauge. just temperature.
Someone please tell me when to put them in the egg cartons?
at 3 days till hatching or one day?
thank you

Hi. I've been reading your thread and I have some questions. I am going to start my first hatch next week with 6+ silkies that I mail ordered and a few mixed from my own hens. I've been reading about you having staggered hatches, but are you keeping all of them in one incubator or are you putting them in another one to hatch? I want to add more to mine but I know they won't be here at the same time. I only have one incubator and it has an automatic egg turner so I don't know how that would work. The last 3 days should I take them all off the egg turner and just manually turn the ones that are not as far along. Thanks!!!....and sorry to butt into your thread

Hi all! Woke up this morning to 27 chicks!!!! Only one egg left and it hasn't pipped but I am SO thankful to have 27 out of 28!!!!! Thanks again for your encouragement and good wishes. I think it really helped! The one thing I did differently this time was to do NOTHING...normally I pull the chicks out a couple at a time as they hatch but this time I let them really accumulate and didn't open it as often as I normally do. As I watched, I noticed that having so many other chicks in there encouraged the others to hatch.

Shane - good luck with yours!!!! But don't panic if you don't see any rocking; I normally don't. Hopefully it'll pip today!!!!

Sis - put them in the egg cartons on day 18 and just let them go. I'm glad you're trying this because especially after this hatch, I'll never do it any other way again. With so many hatched chicks in there, the other eggs would have been ruined. Good luck and can't wait to see pics!!

Erin - welcome! If you only have one incubator, I wouldn't recommend doing staggered hatches. Opening the bator to turn the other eggs could ruin the others. Mags has another bator set up so as the eggs hit day 18, she puts them in the other one. I've never attempted a staggered hatch because I'm not that organized

It's still pouring here but it will still be a good day! All but 10 of the chicks are going to their new homes today; the rest will go tomorrow. I've got jumbo coturnix set to hatch next week and will be putting button quail eggs in the other bator. I just can't stop!!

Good luck to all of you and thanks again for your good wishes! May you all have successful hatches

Yes, I have two incubators, I stagger the hatches and using one of the incubators as a hatcher. I keep a journal of when I put them in the incubator and anticipated hatch dates. Its better to write it down, maybe some people can keep the info in their head but I think I am getting old timers so having it on a piece of paper helps, lol.

I will put the eggs in the egg carton today.
My husband bumped the bator this morning on purpose and listened carefully and heard chirping from the eggs!
