We finally got our first egg yesterday. I spotted it when I went down to the coop in the afternoon but left it for my daughter to find after school, she was absolutely thrilled with "her" discovery:D
Anyway, here's my question; I discovered that among our little flock of fourteen Buff Orpington ladies that one of the girls was larger than the others, at first I put it down to an age difference but as time progressed it transpired that "Big Mama" was actually "Big Papa"

No problem there but he is rather amorous with his charges and I am left to wonder if the eggs we get will be suitable for eating. Your comments would be much appreciated.

Chris.

you can eat fertilized eggs

you just have to make sure they get refrigerated before a baby chick starts growing in there

.... you can candle them to get a peek inside
