first egg! (but feel guilty)

dk:

Thanks for the big laugh this morning!!! My muscovies are like that. One always goes to the plastic dog house, as if it is a "porta potty" and the other one drops it right on the ground...almost anywhere...and walks off.

Not very maternal...or ladylike!!!

* Yep--Chook seems to have no interest at all in eggs, or nest boxes, or even nest boxes with a pair of ceramic eggs I bought her at the Cracker Barrel!! I try not to take it as an insult and just pretend to chalk it up to her having been a feral chicken. Nevermind, that she was only a pullet at the time. . .

I have two collection times - Morning and afternoon, I don't wait on the bird to make peace with the egg.

I do not look at my chickens as pets, they are meat and eggs and manure for the garden and DW flowers (after composting).

So IMHO take the egg and enjoy, as the chicken has done her job, provided you and yours with food.

i have grown to really like our 'girls'. we provide them with the best life we possibly can and in return they give us 'presents' for all our work. don't feel bad about getting the eggs, think of them as a payback for your care.
