First Egg Countdown

Pics
Hey, Happy Chooks! The photo of your welsummer early in this thread has almost identical coloring to my rose comb brown leghorns. Except for the comb, they are almost alike. Their faces are starting to darken up, but they are only 10 and a half weeks old. There's one in my avatar from a couple of weeks ago, they have changed a bit since that photo was taken. *ticktickticktick*

I am subscribing to this thread. I'm trying not to get too egg-cited, but it's really hard when I keep reading up on how close everyone else is. Congrats on everyone's first eggs!

Hi I am new to this, Got five Golden Star chickies :(born around May 1st-ish). How do you know when they might start laying? I saw some of you say 16 weeks. Couldn't find info by googling.

thanks,
Heidi

Hi

Three of my five BA's are doing the egg squat now! Four of them have grown out their wattles. The heat has broken for now here--It was over 100 degrees for five days or so. Hopefully I will get some eggs from them soon--they are 20 weeks and one day old.

Good luck to those of us waiting for the first eggs!

Ron

Oh wow! grats on the grandbaby! Is it a boy or girl? Your black SL should probably lay in about a month in a half. The rest will follow her most likely.

I got three eggs yesterday, found one in the run. I think it might be Darla's, but her comb just isn't all that red yet, so it IS possible that it was my 16 week old Ophelia. Darla's just putting all her time and effort into growing into a monster sized godzilla chicken with the fluffiest butt in town. I should post a pic of it, it's pretty epic.

Welcome to the thread Heidih9202 and Ronott1!!! Can't wait to see your first eggs!

OH MY GOSH!!!! MY girls are killing me! For the last 2 days, 5 of my oldest girls have started rooting around in the nest boxes and going in and out, and in and out of the coop and singing their little egg songs, really loud BaGawk, excitement sounds followed by lots of loud chatter....and still no eggs! Arghhh!!! They lure me out of the house with their sirens song and...NOTHING! hahaha! This waiting game sucks!

I just joined this forum and found this thread!

I have 10 Buff Orpington and 13 Black Australorps, plus 3 BA roster's. The Buffs are 17 weeks. The Australorps are 14 weeks.

When should I separate the rooters from the hens?

I have the BA seperated from the BO, because of the difference in age. Is this still necessary? When can I take down the partition between them?
