First Egg Countdown

Just walked outside to put the girls up for the night and I found ANOTHER egg! That makes 2 on my first egg day. I guess things are already competitive for them, but this really blows me away!

(two eggs on left were laid today, egg on right is a normal store-bought egg)

The 2nd egg was a little larger than the 1st egg, and how odd I found it in the exact same spot...

Yay congrats!!! How exciting I so cant wait to find eggs I constantly look when I go feed and change water.

WOOOOHOOOO!!! Here we go!!! So exciting thanks for the help

I know your excitement! I think it's funny how we act....like we are having a baby! My first eggs came 3 weeks ago and still my husband and I race each other to the nest every day! We still have 4 pullets who are 25 weeks old who haven't started laying yet and we are on pins and needles. Can't wait for those first eggs from them.....and then it will be even more fun to race to the coop! I am getting some new birds at the end of Sept so I can get those blue/green eggs! From my experience, when they start squatting, it is only 7 - 10 days until they lay! Let us know! Good luck!

Wonderful good luck with your new birds. I have EE's and they will lay colored eggs. I will post pretty egg pics..

I have 2 EE. The one laying gives me smallish light brown (pinkish) eggs. I was soooo disappointed. She has given me 16 eggs in 17 days though, so what can I say? She has a rose comb and slate blue legs...but no green or blue eggs. Booooo! The other EE has not laid yet. I am hoping so much that she will have a colored egg! But, like I said, I will be getting some true Ameraucana's in Sept. And maybe a Cream legbar....then I know I will be getting blue eggs!

Are your EE's bantam mixes maybe???

No, they are large fowl.

She is my favorite colored bird. Ester is the EE that is laying right now. Sorry, I said she had a rose comb and I meant a pea comb. Her egg is the one on the far right. The ones on the left were double yolkers from my RIR, a large store bought egg, egg from my barred rock, and then the one from my EE. I guess it really doesn't look all that little compared to the white large store bought one.. It was just that the others where hugh! hahaha

OK, my cochin (which I am positive is a bantam now) has been scarlet, squatting and bawk bawking up a storm for weeks now. What gives?! Also, are you all finding these first eggs in the nest boxes or are they everywhere else?

Happy Chooks, congratulations!! I have 5 Wellies from Cackle hatchery that are 23 weeks today. I don't think any of them will be ready by next week, their combs are all red but still pretty small. I'm thinking more like 3 more weeks, but I can't wait to get a terra cotta egg! What do yours look like?

Do you free range your chicken? If you do, I would keep her in the coop for at least 24 hours maybe more to see if she is laying. Have you put "fake" eggs in her nest? Chickens will lay their eggs where others lay. It will show her where she is suppose to lay. If she has been squatting for more than 10 days, I would assume she is laying eggs somewhere.
