First Egg Countdown

Im still waiting for my chicken children to start....

I have 4 bantams at 17 weeks:
biscuit (a polish), Betsy (an orpington), Panda (a slw), Dottie (a lavender pekin)

and 2 more bantams at 11 weeks
Chirpy (a cukoo maran- cant wait for her eggs!!!) and Poppy (a ginger pekin)

and 3 more..7 weeks.
Mumble (a mottled pekin), Papillion (a polish) and Fumble/Spaz (another polish)

Awww, your girls are gorgeous!! What's the little grey/blue one closest to the camera w/her back turned to us? Looks (from this pic anyway) like one of my bantam boys, he's a feed store D'uccle (hopefully I spelled that right).

So, after my excitement getting my first egg two days ago, my BR hasn't laid since. I know it will take a while for her egg laying pattern to normalize, but I hope she lays again for me soon!

Fingers crossed for tomorrow... At least I have BYC people to talk with about it, I think my husband is tired of hearing me whine! Lol

Hey, my daughter just told me a friend of hers from college wrote a cute children's book about hatching chickens so I downloaded it to my Kindle Fire. It was wonderful and accurate! It's called Samantha Hatches the Chicken Egg by Daisy Griffin. If you have kids or grandkids, this is a great book to tell them about hatching eggs. Enjoy! oh yea, she also mentions BYC in the book!!!!

24 weeks yesterday and we got our first egg... EVER....

, see, we are newbies! So eggciting! I had just gotten home from the store with another dozen store bought eggs, and jokingly yelled across the yard, "you girls had better hurry up and start laying...or else". Went out to check the food and water, peeked in the nest boxes, like I do every stinkin' day, and there it was, the prettiest egg I had ever seen, actually even in a box! Wow..who to call first? Just sent a picture text out to the whole darn contact list!

Awwwww, yyeeeaaaahhhh... my 2 days shy of 17 week old Brown Leghorn squatted for me today... came up to me... and squatted... twice.

wow, I'm jealous. My brown leghorn is 23 weeks old and no eggs yet! Her comb is so big it flops over! We have been keeping her in the run to make sure she wasn't having them in the woods but no eggs! Boo!
