First Egg Countdown

My little Ameraucana laid her first egg today. I was really surprised because I was thinking she had another three weeks or so....she is 21 1/2 weeks old. A beautiful steel blue pullet egg! So excited to have another colored egg for my basket! That makes 3 new laying hens in 10 days! Yea!
Congrats!
So the little hens are crazy. The big girls have been using the nesting boxes like they should & suddenly the little girls stopped laying, or so I THOUGHT! Yesterday I couldn't find Tori & I was freaking out! Then, I saw an eye peeping out at me from the feeder!!! She was inside it with 2 eggs!!! I took her out & scolded her. Then this morning there was another one!! So, I am spending my Sunday making a new feeder with a TOP on it because they don't have a top for what we are using now & I can't figure out how to rig one up.
Sneaky girls!
Done & feeling like a rock star!
Nice Job!

Hip Hip Hurray! Today I got an egg from all 10 of my laying hens! The newest one is the blue pullet egg...from my Ameraucana (EE because it's not the right color), Am so excited about my bowl of eggs!

The middle one is the new pullet egg.

Had to add one more picture!! hahahah! They are 3 EEs, Welsummer, RIR, Buff Orphington, Barred Rock, Silkie, Polish, and a Brown Leghorn.
.

Ok I got 4 RSL and & 2 whites Leghorns....18 weeks old ....combs and faces are reddining...let the countdown begin

My BCM is a dud. She is the only one not laying. The rest have been laying since end of January. :-/. She laid fewer tham a dozen eggs in the fall and then quit. One or two eggs a week at that. Lesson learned, next spring when I am ready for more chicks I will get from a breeder. Congrats to everyone with their first egg!

I fweel like i'm gonna lay an egg before my pullets do lol lol
D.gif
....Maybe the feed store I got them from were alittle off of their ages ....but I've heard it could be a good thing they dont lay too early...

Yep, if they lay too early (like before 16 to 18 weeks), then they are very prone to being egg-bound and other reproductive problems. It's not good for them.

Don't worry to those who are waiting, your girls will step up to the plate! (or nest).

And congrats to those who are no longer waiting!

With 2 hatches and a total of 32 chicks, I'm back to waiting for eggs. Plus 6 5 month old blue barnevelders.

My chicks outnumber my adults......LOL.

Hi! I'm new to chickens. Our hens turned 20 weeks old on Thursday (we have 2, plus 2 Roos who will be meeting the freezer soon) They are Dominique/Rhode Island Red crosses. I was wondering if there were any signs that they are about to start laying that I can look for? We are getting impatient around here :)
