First Egg Countdown

We have 4 buff orpingtons that are almost 17 weeks old (give or take a few days, they were 12 wks when we got them). I'm so excited, I can't wait!

Here's 3 of them, I still have a hard time telling them all apart :p

And one in the nesting box, hopefully that's a good sign! :)
I think you have a long time to wait. Is the one behind her laying yet?

Thank you.
It is a fun lesson for them. We have a garden as well so we go out grab some lettuce and make salads too. Not bad for a city girl.

No not at all!! More people should follow in your footsteps!,and being a Pharmacist its good for them, its exercise with out them knowing it, I see soooo many extremely overweight kids at work, that the most they move when they get home from school is from the computer chair to the bathroom, they would benefit greatly from a brisk stroll around a garden or playing with chickens, its more stimulating to the mind interacting with live animals and nature!!

lol thanks for the "ovation" i didnt know what it was until today, checked my profile i didnt realize I had sooo many,

Okay I can't find a good place to ask this question, so I'm going with here because this thread gets a lot of feedback :)
This weekend we will be getting two new pullets (they are prob around 15-17 weeks old)from a friend. The catch is we have to transport them 7.5-8 hours in our backseat. I need some suggestions for what to put them in. We have a wire dog crate, but it is to big for the backseat. So far I am thinking a Rubbermaid tub with chicken wire over the top...what do you think? Any other suggestions? Please keep in mind my 3 year old will also be in the backseat in a car seat. Thank you for reading and excuse me for posting this here!

My first time transporting chickens I went fancy with a huge wire cage and it was a hassle, my second time was a cardboard box with hole punched in it (it was a 5 hour drive) and they did perfect both times!!!, as long as they ate and its not too hot youll be ok!!!

oh and dont worry about putting 2 or 3 in a 3 ft box it actually works out better so they dont slide around!!!!!

Hi all! I got my first chickens ever in February. They are about 15.5 weeks old and I am eagerly waiting for my first egg! I have them on layer feed now, I have a few nesting boxes set up, I have witnessed mating from the roosters, and I've heard the egg song.

So here's what I've got:
3 EE
4 SLW
4 BO
2 SS
1 GC
2 Red Rangers

I also have a handful of 13 week old white leghorns and a half dozen mallard ducks that will lay.

Can't wait!
