First Egg Countdown

FIRST EGG!!!! Whooooohooo!!! I'm beyond just a little excited, I think my neighbors 3 acres away heard me scream for joy

Now if I can just figure out who laid it....

Congrats on the egg, and love the picture. Better watch it tho, if she pecks it and eats anything, it's over. She'll be after all the eggs from then on and you won't get any. Once a chicken eats a fresh egg/shell like that, they hunt them out because they are delicious!
My Rooster has always been very friendly, in his 18 1/2 weeks of life, but now the hens have started laying the last 4 days, he keeps "biting" me when I collect the eggs! Hard enough to leave bruises a few times! Its not really a peck, its an open beak & close it around the skin! Grrrrr!
Well now, sounds like he better start behaving better, or he may head to freezer camp?

Finally got our first egg, it's kind of small, but I know they will get bigger with time. 29 weeks of waiting has finally paid off!
I agree with kmolly. I'm not a patient type very much, and wasn't eggspecting any eggs until early August. So, when we got our first at 15.5 weeks from one of our leghorns, that sure was eggciting!
29 weeks?!? What breed?? Good Lord......I'm not that patient. My brown layers have started, it's my Easter Eggers that need to move it along.

lol.

Got our very first egg this morning! Now if only we knew whose it is. Out of our eight pullets we only have one that will lay a distinct egg (our Ameracauna) and the others lay light brown or brown eggs. Anyone have any tips for trying to decipher who lays which?

I don't understand your post. If you have an emergency, please post it in the Emergencies section. You will get faster help there.

Congrats!

Tips - you have to be a chicken nerd and spend WAY too much time in the coop. Then when you study the egg, look for subtle differences such as shape. Then for the most part, you should be able to tell which hen is laying which egg.

We got our first egg this morning!!! I let my girls out of their coop to roam my back yard. I looked in the nest box and could tell someone had been in it but no egg. Each morning when I let them out they follow me on to the back deck so they can get some oatmeal. They just love it!! Well, I gave them their oatmeal, went about my business for a few mins, and when I looked back out the door what do I see on the step???? THE MOST BEAUTIFUL LITTLE EGG !!! I just hope next time they will lay it in the nest box!!! :)

Congrats!! I hope my girls get the hint to lay in the nest box too!

Now I'm wondering if others have laid eggs and we just don't know it because they're ranging. Is there a way to encourage them to lay in the nesting boxes?
