First Egg Countdown

My 2 girls that are laying started squatting about 1 week before i started finding eggs. I have yet to hear an egg song from anybody though. I found out what time they're laying but even when I sit there and listen all I hear is normal clucking.
When you hear the egg song, you will be delighted! It's so funny sounding, and cool at the same time. First you'll think you're chicken has gone bonkers, then you remember about the song.

Are there any tricks to getting them to lay? Can I tie a clove of garlic around their neck, or put up a fertility god of something?

It is better and healthier for a pullet to wait until she is older to lay eggs. It is like asking a 12 year old girl to have a baby....too young! When a chicken eats too much protein and grows too fast, it can damage their bones and whole system.

So feed them as follows:
Starter food (20-24% protein): 0 - 6/8 weeks old
Grower food (14-16% protein): 6/8 weeks old to 20 weeks
Layer food (16-18% protein): 20+ weeks

And, be patient.

Well- HERE is the FIRST EGG!!!!! And I suspect the responsible one is on the right in the photo. Unfortunately, she laid it from way on top of the roost, and it just fell to the floor, so it broke.
But I'm so happy and excited. These girls are both 16 weeks and the egg is white though the camera makes it look tan.

Reading all these makes me so anxious for my girls.....I just know I'll be the wild idiot running like a crackhead getting a fix when we get our first egg.....time for my girls to start working off their debts

It was just suppose to be a joke.

Wnat a beaut! Just added some 16 week (ish) easter eggers to my flock hope to see something this beautiful this summer.

one of my chickens came up to me this afternoon and I went to reach for her and she turned but I had my hand on her not hard though but she squatted when I did it.

Got 2 eggs, so far, from my new ladies. Still waiting on my pullet, she is in her teenage weeks, I really wish I knew her exact age!
