Funny stuff there. That's kinda how we do it around here, still so eggcited to be getting eggs. We are up to 25-30 a week now! From 0 in the middle of June to that, and we only have 5 of the 7 hens laying. Our first was from our leghorns, one of the girls was only 15.5 weeks old.Reading all these makes me so anxious for my girls.....I just know I'll be the wild idiot running like a crackhead getting a fix when we get our first egg.....time for my girls to start working off their debts
Very nice! I've had egg sandwiches the last 3 mornings, so tender and flavorful.Got 2 eggs, so far, from my new ladies. Still waiting on my pullet, she is in her teenage weeks, I really wish I knew her exact age!
...no, wait, we got three eggs. Three eggs today from our three new ladies![]()
Chicken math is inevitable.![]()
Some hatcheries let you order just one or two adult birds. One downside is that they're kind of wild when they come, but you can order any breed and they're female. I just received a Marans and an EE from Murray McMurray. The shipping price is steep, and the birds were much younger than promised (8 weeks instead of 16), but on the bright side they are both female, healthy, and hopefully I can tame them to trust me a little more. I think if there was a farm nearby I would have just called and asked to purchase a couple of started pullets. If that's an option for you, I suggest the farm.
I began wanting just two birds, and now I have 8!
Careful what you wish for. I've had 9 broodies so far this year. They are driving me crazy. I'm getting some chicks for the Orp that crushed her babies in their eggs but won't stop sitting.Wow!! I looked them up. You were so not joking! $70 shipping!!! I may go for it some day and get a Buff Orphington though. I'm eager to have a hen that will go broody, and hatch some new babies!!Thanks for the info!![]()
Oh wow! Lol That would be annoying to have so many. Idk if mine r even old enough to get broody. They are only like 19 week old red pullets. Got them at tractor supply this Spring. My first little chicks!! And I am severely addicted already. I LOVE sitting out back watching them!!! I would prefer to get a few from a breeder where I can just go pick them up. Lol So far, I haven't found anyone who knows anyone around here.Quote:Careful what you wish for. I've had 9 broodies so far this year. They are driving me crazy. If you REALLY want a broody, get a bird from a breeder, not a hatchery.
