First Egg Countdown

Chaos -  You have several that look close to starting up: one of the Australorps, one of your brahmas.  The Speckled Sussex and the Faverolles aren't too far behind.

Happy Chooks what do you think? 16wks today. The Golden Buffs have been squatting a few weeks now. The BR's and BO's just started.

My girls got much larger combs before laying-i have some 21 week old sexlinks/orps/rocks that look a lot like yours and im expecting eggs by valentines day

Hi Happy Chooks. I haven't been on in a while. My flock is doing good. I have 2 regular layers. I haven't been able to witness who's laying but I suspect my 2 Orps. They get mated regularly. The RIR does not and her comb isn't bright red. I thing shes holding out til spring. I take boiled eggs to work. They are good. I've mashed up some for them to eat, shells too. Hope all is well with you. Merry Christmas.

Quote: I think this one will be your first to lay. Keep in mind that 16 weeks is still really young. The others look to be a while yet. (about a month out)

Merry Christmas to you too. I am doing well, and thankfully, some new layers are starting up. Now if my molting hens would start back up. Your RIR is probably a late bloomer. She'll get there.

I hope everyone is doing well and are not too stressed from the holiday season, I had to brag a little about my new layer and my other pullets I hope that you do not mind.

We got our first egg from my 16 new chicks hatch July 29th. A nice little 1.6 ounce egg! The young chickens are now 20 weeks and 5 days old.

Here she is on the right, my light brown leghorn, Izzie. Standing beside her is my older EE, Olivia, who laid up a storm in the summer, went broody, then molted and has not laid anymore of her pretty green eggs since.

I am excited to add a white egg to the egg basket. I have only 2 of my older 6 girls still laying and both of those are brown eggs. We've been scarce on the eggs lately, so it is exciting to have a new layer. I have 22 hens and we were getting only 1 to 2 eggs a day, so we're very happy to be getting more now.

Here is my BA, Blackie. She is very talkative now too, but no eggs yet. Look at that red though!

Lacie, the GLW is very chatty too and red, but no eggs yet.

Then there is one of my Cuckoo Marans, Zany. She has no red at all, but squats now. None of the other 16 young chicks squat for me yet. All of my older ones did before they laid eggs.

This is my first year with chickens and I have enjoyed it so much!

I have a large variety of chickens:
1 RIR - 45 weeks old- still laying
2 BR's - 45 weeks old- 1 still lays and 1 is molting
1 BO - 45 weeks- molting
1 EE - 45 weeks- done molting but not laying
1 WR - 34 weeks - stopped laying, not sure why

My 16 -21 week olds
2 - brown leghorns
1 - BA
1- GLW
1- BLP
1 - SF

1- Golden Campine

Congrats! How old are your Olive Eggers? Did they lay nice green eggs?

now we wait for the littles. All 22 and 21 weeks. 9 weeks to go and theyll be the same age my layers started!
Cute chicks! Your's are about the same age as mine. Waiting for eggs is exciting and frustrating all at the same time!
