First Egg Countdown

I've had experience with just four hens and each of them did the same thing. Laid one egg, waited days, and laid another, waited, laid another. They are just getting used to their new hormones, their bodies need time to adjust to this new process. Within three weeks is laying their first egg, each of mine were laying 5-6 a week consistently.

don't worry, it'll happen soon!

Ok, I am still being patient!! First egg Thursday (double yolk so that was a bonus!) no egg Friday, no egg Saturday, no egg today (Sunday). Please, please girlies!! Someone lay me an egg!!!

Lol!

I have 13 pullets that are 25 weeks old tomorrow. They are all teasing me with their pretty little combs and wattles, pink faces and squatting (some are squatting, not all). No eggs, though. They're definitely enjoying it. chickens are devious, who knew?

Egg #2! This one was smaller and a little lighter in color than the first one. It's a bit more speckled and has a pink tone to it, rather than our solid light brown from Thursday. Pic is taken on some new chicken tea towels my best friend bought me as a thank you for watching her cat for a week. They are so dang cute!

We still don't know who is laying and whether this egg is from the same girl that laid last week. Snoop has the largest comb and wattles, but Leticia's facial features are redder. Lemon squats just looking at her, but now I hear squatting does not equate to laying. Either way, I am happy!!

We have a new layer! Unfortunately, it must have surprised her as it was layer from the roost and it didn't make it through the landing. :( But it was a nice size! Pretty beige. Im not sure who it could be. Her sisters 4eggs are in the basket behind the wreckage. FluffyButt laid four days straight then went on a break for the past couple days. Maybe I'll get two eggs tomorrow!

Congrats on the egg. I MUST have that towel! Where did your friend get it?

Looked like a double yolker too. Too bad it didn't survive impact. Hope you get another one soon.

Hooray! Love that egg hunt in the mornings. :) It'll be any time now for the others to follow suit and start laying.

The towels were from Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company in Petaluma, California. Petaluma was once referred to as the Egg Capital of the World due to the poultry operations there. I have no idea if they have a website or e-commerce. I would imagine so. I drove through Petaluma just about a year ago on a trip to NorCal with my mom and what a lovely town! So many beautifully restored Victorian homes and perfectly manicured yards. If I had known about the seed place I may have spent my whole 4 days vacation camped out in there!
