You think that is exciting. Just wait until you get an egg inside and egg. Now that is something to puzzle over.
Oh my goodness, I will cut a cartwheel if I get one of those!

awesome, I love the color. I'm anxiously awaiting our EE to lay so we can see if we get a pretty color from her.![]()
Got my first egg today!! So exciting! We have 3 EE's, we got them in April and we were told they were about a month old. So that would make them about 18 weeks old. Our egg is tiny and green. I don't know which one laid it since they've all been checking out the nesting box. Anyway, so very excited!!

They are probably practicing in the nest boxes and kicking the eggs out in their zest to have the "perfect nest". Some pullets get a bit overzealous in the nesting right before they start laying. It usually settles down once they are laying for a while.Mine are 22 and e'er weeks no eggs, and they are hiding the fake eggs.I put a real one in there and I can't find it either. Why would they hide them?
Decreasing day light. They may molt this fall as well. When you look in the yard and it looks like a pillow exploded, you have birds molting. My chickens have been laying for almost a year now. At first I got an egg from each one for about 6 months, than they slowly have been decreasing their eggs production down. Now a days I get maybe 1 or 2 eggs a day (I have 5 chickens FYI). Can anyone give me a clue why this is?
thanks

They are very close. My ladies are 19 weeks. I can't wait for eggs! My kids, who are 5 and 6 years old helped put some pine shavings and golf balls in the nest boxes and now they keep checking the nest boxes every day. We have 2 EE's, 2 barred rocks and 2 buff orpingtons. One of the BO's has sung the egg song. I heard her in the morning about a week ago, but now I only hear her sing after she gets spooked by our house cat. I haven't seen anyone squat yet, but the combs and wattles are getting really red and big. I'm getting excited. This is my first time with chickens.
