First Egg Countdown

I'll hop on this thread. I have two Wyandottes, two Cochins and one Barred Plymouth Rock. They will be 20 weeks old in two days and I've not yet seen much indication that they're even thinking about laying. Spoiled ungrateful little brats. They passed last nights health check with flying colors, they eat Scratch and Peck layer grains, they have free access to oyster shells, and I add protein treats like mealworms and BOSS to help with their juvenile molt. I even have fake eggs sitting in the nest boxes. If they don't start laying soon, I dunno what I will do, but stew is starting to sound mighty tempting!
Right there with u mine are spoiled to death have everything possible fake eggs good nest boxes, layer food, scratche grit and oyster shell and they are still boycotting! So frustrating although I know mine are suppose to take a little longer than some mine are at 26 weeks now... Bantams and orps... Roosters are even making nests in boxes for them and calling and no one appeartly is convincing enough... Lol

So I'm praying right now my little bantam hen is laying her first egg! She is in next box fluffing around and taking pieces of bedding in her mouth and situating! I'm hoping! Say a prayer! I just need to start collecting some sort of rent soon! lol even if it's not orps...

praying for you. My first 2 layers never checked out the nest box and preferred to lay on the coop floor until I changed nest boxes but my other 2 checked the next box out exactly 1 day before I saw their first eggs! Good luck, I bet you'll definitely have an egg by tomorrow! :)

When they take pieces of bedding and toss it onto their backs, that is absolutely a sign they are laying an egg. Mine seem to do that every time. A first egg can take quite a while to push out, so she'll probably want a couple of hours of quiet time.
I'd love to see a Bantam first egg photo!

My leghorns are 21 weeks and one of them almost looks as big as the 4 year old leghorn we have. the other 3 are not as big in the comb and waddle but they sure are noisy every time I go in the coop. One of them got injured so I will know for sure when she starts laying since she is in a seperate cage in the coop. The EEs I have don't sing yet and they are 21 weeks as well. The EE rooster that is 21 weeks learned how to be a daddy last week and the 20 week buff orp. I think I saw out of the corner of my eye has also learned how to be a daddy now for all of the girls to start laying! Oh and I got 6 more chicks that are about 1 1/2 weeks old now.

I'm still impatiently awaiting eggs from my RIRs. Lol My Bantams were laying practically everyday! But then one went broody and after I got her to snap out of it apparently she decided to go on strike. So I only get a lone egg every day to every other day. And these darn chickens eat better than my family! Lol *sigh*

Well update is she's been in and out of box all day still nothing... I have no other hens laying at all so she may be a little confused as to what's happening... Just keeping my fingers crossed :)
