Today is the day the chickens will lay I hope! I can feel it in my bones!![]()
now she is not acting interested in box today although she still has kinda been pacing and such? I dunno she just wants to fool me i think! Lol the roo was in box making nest and she was looking at him but that's bout it that I have seen... Urgpraying for you. My first 2 layers never checked out the nest box and preferred to lay on the coop floor until I changed nest boxes but my other 2 checked the next box out exactly 1 day before I saw their first eggs! Good luck, I bet you'll definitely have an egg by tomorrow!![]()
Hello all. I'm a city girl down here in Texas raising my first chickens. My husband is a farm boy transplant and he talked me into it. I sure am glad he did. They are so much fun. It took 26 weeks, but we finally got our first egg this last week! I think it is from Bella, one of our buff orpingtons. Yesterday there were two eggs, so I think Steiny one of our barred rocks started laying as well. They are the only two doing the submissive squat when we try and pick them up that I keep reading about, and they have the darkest combs and waddles.
So I have 7 more girls we are waiting on. 2 EE, another barred rock, another buff orpington, 2 silver laced wyandottes, and a black australorp.
Hopefully they see how its done and all will join in soon!
Mine are 26 right now26 weeks?! Mine are only 20 weeks - you're killing me here!![]()
Is there a return policy for defective chickens? If so in ready to trade mine in for some that are laying! LolI thought a bought a bunch of defective chickens for a while. I don't know if it is the heat or what, but I am glad some have started laying. I think mine are just extremely stubborn.

Mine that hatched at Easter are still holding out on me. I've had a couple of pullets that I had to wait 11 months for. They laid for a couple of months, then went broody.![]()
