First Egg Countdown

Ok so my bantam started laying just noticed my big hen orp screeching this am roo was in box while she was doing this in hoping that's a sign that she is close... They are the ones I really am excited for

any ideas about this screeching? It wasn't really loud but different?

They can be very vocal on the day they are going to lay. The rooster is trying to show her where to lay.

And it was a leghorn egg!!!! (Although I was secretly hoping for the Americana) we only had one leghorn before so It was easy to identify who laid

The down-side is that I have a dozen and a half store-bought eggs in the refrigerator.....

I have the same problem. Just got my first egg and still have a dozen store bought. Maybe I'll make deviled eggs today.

Congrats!! And I was thinking to do the same thing with all my store bought eggs. Hoping for my second egg today, she didn't lay yesterday but her first one on Thursday was laid late in the day.

I'm a first time chicken owner my hens are about 7 months old when should they start laying anyone know I have araucana/amerucauna

I would think they should have already laid. But im not familiar with your breeds. Someone will have the answer for you tho! Btw welcome to byc and the chicken family!

They are losing feathers could that be bcthey are molting and could they keep them from laying

I think I read somewhere that they may slow down laying if they are moulting but im not sure. Are you sure of the age? Did u get them as chicks? Can you post pictures?

I got them from a store they were maybe a week old I believe they r between 6-7 months
