First Egg Countdown

Yesterday we gained a 3rd layer. Hubby found the egg while I was at work, he said it was white! When I got home it was a definite green! Hubby swears it was white when he found it

My one and only EE has joint the layers!

Here is a picture of the new green egg, next to egg #4 (in 4 days!!) from another new layer! The big egg is from my only hen. I can't believe I gained 2 new layers this week!!

For some reason I wasn't watching the EE for signs that she would be laying, she is the smallest in the flock and lowest in the pecking order! Out of my original 5 chickens she's the first!

Congratulations!

First egg!! Hooray! My Barred Rock, Roxanne, is the first of my five 23-week-old girls to lay an egg! So exciting! The days are so short and gray here in Seattle that I was afraid I'd have to wait until Spring -- but Roxanne came through for me! Yay!

Hooray for not having to wait until spring!

Beautiful green! Congrats!

I am counting down the days until I can lift the nest box lid (or droppings board or a hole in the ground) and find an egg from one of my 12 layers. They're all 20 weeks old and 2 australorps and an easter egger look very red in the comb and (hopefully) ready to lay. The waiting is the hardest part, lol.
