I saw The wheaten Ameraucanas also and was very excited. I ordered my original 12 chickens from Mypetchicken. They labled the EEs appropriately so I knew exactly what I was getting when I ordered them. I love my EEs.

The picture they have is a pretty poor quality bird, but honestly, I'm just excited that they are finally giving the breed the individuality and respect it deserves. Hatcheries don't really have high quality of any breed, but they don't just cross a RIR and a Silkie and sell the offspring as "pure silkies". They shouldn't do that to Ameraucanas either, unless they are up front about it, and tell people they're getting EEs instead.

My pet chicken has been calling their EE's "Easter Eggers" for quite a while, I think. When mcmurray and other hatcheries follow suit, I will be happier.

We got our 1st bantam EE egg 2 days ago!! It's so cute! Love it!

I think some hatcheries are afraid of labeling them EE's because that means they are not "pure", which is all wrong really. They just are not "pure" ameracauna. There is nothing wrong with an EE I absolutely love mine. I also have 2 bantam EE roosters who I adore. I think EE's are wonderful and such range of colors and styles. I am going to breed mine for sure. Hopefully all the hatcheries follow suit and name them correctly. I have even sen in a description on one of the hatchery websites of it interchanging ameracauna and easter egger saying they are one in the same and by what ever name it is one breed. I wish places would get facts straight, it makes them sound unreliable.
Did anyone see the pic of my blue/copper colored EEon the last page? Would that be blue wheaten? I need a better pic. She lays the bluest egg of all 3 of them.

I posted in a breed forum and someone suggested I post here as well. I rescued what I think are 4 pullets and 1 roo this weekend. I'm wondering if anyone has thoughts on how close they are to laying? I have them on layer feed because they seem big enough for it but am not certain. I'm not 100% on their breeds but my guesses are posted below with each photo:

1. Someone suggested this is a barnvelder pullet but not close to laying? She's big and very dominant.


2. I think this is a golden buff/red star pullet...close to laying or no?


3. I think this is another golden buff/red star but not sure if shes laying or not.


4. Looks like a Buff Orpington, again not sure if she's laying or not.

From that angle she doesn't look like a Barnevelder... Can you get a profile shot of the entire bird? I suspect she is a cross of some kind.

The second red star looks to be of laying age, but the first one still looks too young. Not sure about the buff colored bird.
