First Egg Countdown

I think my 7 month old speckled Sussex is getting ready to finally lay. Every time I pet her, she sticks her butt up in the air like she is waiting on a rooster. Caught her in the nesting box too

Naughty Margaret laid today, but she was the only one. We ate her egg from yesterday and it was delicious! The yolk was a pretty orange color instead of yellow!

She laid two yesterday!!!

My little Ameraucana laid her first egg today. I was really surprised because I was thinking she had another three weeks or so....she is 21 1/2 weeks old. A beautiful steel blue pullet egg! So excited to have another colored egg for my basket! That makes 3 new laying hens in 10 days! Yea!

So the little hens are crazy. The big girls have been using the nesting boxes like they should & suddenly the little girls stopped laying, or so I THOUGHT! Yesterday I couldn't find Tori & I was freaking out! Then, I saw an eye peeping out at me from the feeder!!! She was inside it with 2 eggs!!! I took her out & scolded her. Then this morning there was another one!! So, I am spending my Sunday making a new feeder with a TOP on it because they don't have a top for what we are using now & I can't figure out how to rig one up.
