fing... im goin through the same thing?? i added oyster shells and cut off treats i think its a new hen or old hen thing but i had 3 in a row... usualy early morning almost when they are sleeping it happens... keep an eye on it.... Im a little worried cause i think its from my fav chicken and I hope shes not a dud lol...but Usuallyy I never had a problem with this, in your sit its prob a new layer getting her rythem which is mostly the usual suspect!!!

Here is another one I found!!!



Chickens need a lot of calcium to create good, hard shells, so most incidences of shell-less eggs in an adult hens are related to not having enough calcium in the diet. Young hens may lay a shell-less egg or two right as they begin to lay eggs for the first time, before their systems have "gotten into the groove" of laying. If your girls are on a proper diet of lay ration and have oyster shell free choice, they should have all the calcium they need. They also need Vitamin D and a proper balance of other vitamins so they can process the calcium. Lots of snacks or scraps can throw off the nutrient balance of their diets or give them too much salt.

Disturbances at night while they are sleeping--a predator prowling around, or a big storm, for example-- can also sometimes upset their system and cause shell-less eggs. If that is what's happening, some of the other girls' eggs may have bands or "checks" on them, as the laying process was disturbed briefly before resuming its normal course. If disturbances are the problem, when they cease, the shell problems should cease, too.

Another possibility has to do with the salt in their diet. Too much salinity can cause shell-less or thin-shelled eggs. So, sometimes if they are drinking water that is highly softened, it can contain a problem amount of salts for them.

It could also simply be a defective shell gland; it that is the case there is nothing to be done about it.

Lastly, infectious bronchitis can also cause thin shelled eggs, or eggs with no shells. Chances are good you would have noticed respiratory symptoms. If you suspect your chicken has a case of IB, you should get her to a vet for a diagnosis immediately. There are some other illnesses, such as egg drop syndrome, that could cause the same thing. If you have eliminated everything else, your vet may be able to help you.

Thanks !!! good info, but you know what, it didn't start until I introduced 3 new pullets to the gang!!! like 1 or 2 days later it started, there was unrest in the herim, you think that could be it?, im on day 6 with the new girls, they are really settled in with the others, still a few pecks here and there, and the one I suspect is laying the soft one is/was the queen hen (bee) lol so maybe it through her off her game? lol... Why am I so neurotic ...Thank you so much again!! Im cutting bback on scraps til I know what going on.. I crushed up oyster shell in their crumble and added some vet rx in their water(just a few drops to the gallon) for good measure for a day and APC the next... I hope I dont over dose them lol

All right! Yesterday morning my daughter found the shell less egg, and we didn't get any other eggs. Today we found a green egg so one of the Easter eggers must have started but we didn't get one from the bard rock. Maybe if we are lucky we will get two tomorrow.

lol I got another shell less also and 3 other normals, thats 4 out of 9 started lol....we got a long way ahead of us haha well atleast well get a good workout constantly checking the nests

Ha HA! I was just going to post and you beat me. Yesterday we got one brown egg. Today we got a green and a brown. Two out of seven laying, one Bard Rock and one EE.

Okay so far at least two of my buffs are now laying!! And a third I thought was going to, but after sitting for an hiur or so she got up clucking as if she had layed, but nothing in the box haha.

My lady's first week of hard work. All in the trash now! The kids sure did enjoy the sandwiches they made for lunch.
