I am way too eggcited about this but it was a exciting end to a exciting day! Can't wait to see what tomorrow will bring. Ha! I took pictures of my first three double yolkers. Even sent them to my husband at work. :) Amazing how some of their first eggs can be so big. My husband sent me a couple pictures of our first blue egg too. Little things make me happy. Lol

First let me say, im sorry. It's not my first egg yet. But my pullet was just blocking the coop door and would not let the roo in! She's got her tail straight up in the air, she's laying kind of on her side, she keeps going in and out of a "trance" or something and she's breathing pretty deeply. I haven't heard a sound yet, and now she's back out in the run eating.

Could it be?!?

I will join. I am anxious to be more active in the forum , so i can stop harrassing my facebook friends with chickens with questions :)

I have a small flock of 6 1 white leghorn , 3 red sex links , and 2 bantams , they are all right about 16 weeks.

I did just recently switch their feed to a layer feed when the starter feed was gone. a friend who bought her chicks same place in town i did , and in the same week has already found eggs .. so i am sooo anxious for some eggs , will make me start to feel like it's all worth it :) lol , no i joke, i love my ladies .. I will post again later with some pictures
Yes we want pictures! When you start getting eggs the wait will be worth it, and finally over. We got ours in mid June, about 6 weeks earlier than eggspected. From our white leghorn. She's given us almost an egg every day since, and her white leghorn flockmate has been laying reliably the last 2 weeks as well. One of our sex links started laying 2 weeks ago, about 5 eggs/week from her.
Not only did I get my first ever egg today but I got 2!!!

I thought for sure my Banty's would lay first as they've all been very red for a few weeks and are older than my big girls so it was a major surprise to find these.

Not sure who is responsible for them though. But considering I was greeted by Lady one of my RSL and Wilma my SLW with the huge red wattles and single comb in the coop I'm going to guess them for now until I catch them in the act.

Edit: My big girls are 18 1/2 weeks and my banty's going on 20 weeks
First eggs are so fun. Congrats!
Woo! Just found my 3rd egg! Think I may have prematurely congratulated Wilma as this egg is larger and different colored than the first 2. Happy chicken Mama!

I bet that big egg is a double yolker. Fresh eggs are sooooo tasty, it's hard to describe. No matter how they are cooked.

Oh my! One of my "hens" I'm suddenly not so sure about. My rooster is the same kind, a Speckled Sussex, and "Popcorn" is smaller than him, and her comb and wattles r smaller than his, but growing every day! My rooster started crowing weeks ago, and I've never seen Popcorn crow, but they keep facing off quite a bit! Their neck feathers get all fluffed up, and they run at each other like they r fighting. Popcorn also doesn't run straight to The Colonel, my rooster, when he calls them like the others do Just seems odd behavior for a hen!!!

Congrats to all getting eggs. I have a RSL that has been squatting for a few days now. She turned 18 weeks today so I should have some eggs soon! Whew hoo, no more grocery store eggs!
