First Egg Countdown

So gal I found this thread. It has answered the question of "why 3 eggs within 9 days nothing for the past week?". My daughters am I go out and check through out the day and nothing. But now I realized that they too have to get used to their new routine and what's going on. I do believe that I have three more pullets that will be turning into hens very shortly: combs are brighter and larger. Making lots of noise and very very inquisitive. We tell them evey night....go lay an egg! Maybe that will motivate them?! Lol

I've heard and experienced that they lay about every 28 hours and when they first start laying their eggs will be smaller (depending on age) and they have to get into the routine of their new found usefulness! Be patient.

I found eggs around and was told to just put an egg (store bought) in the nest box to remind them where they were supposed to lay. That worked
BTW I had two eggs in the nesting box for a couple weeks as an incentive to lay. Today someone brought them in mistaking them for new eggs. I figured, hey, might as welll throw them away now as the hens are laying. I was at the sink and dropped one into the disposal-it missed and cracked out-floated in the residual sink water swirling out white liquid and the proverbial rotten egg smell! I had to reach into the stinkin' water, put in the disposal thingy to start it up and empty the water out then throw in the other egg and grind them both up. LOL it was so stinky everyone but me had to leave the house and they were in other rooms. Learn something new every day.

18 weeks old or about. My two Easter Egger girls have to be close! I'm impatient dang it! How can I maybe, scare the eggs outta them? Dress up like a coyote??? Squeeze them? (Kidding of course)

They did not lay because it put a lot of stress on them so when they are new or old the will not lay all the time as they get older but not too old they will lay all the time.

Nice! I have 16-ish week old Black and Blue Copper Marans, White Marans, and Cuckoo Marans. Can't wait to see how dark they'll lay! I would be happy with the color of your first one. Love the speckles.

Ha ha funny story about the stink bomb.

About the eggs in a chicken nest, it's probably better to use fake eggs or a golf ball. If one of your hens ever pecks open a real egg and they get a taste of it, you will have a very hard time breaking them of eating the fresh eggs. They love them as much as we do.

My granny used to give them a pinch of cayenne pepper, just to keep them healthy. But there's one trick that always seems to work.
Go to the farmers market and buy two dozen eggs. Your hens will lay within a few days for sure
